May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month

May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month

Did you know May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month?

May is a busy time of year. School is ending, summer vacations are being finalized, and backyard barbecues are on the calendar. It’s not surprising that disability insurance isn’t top-of-mind for most Americans. The life-altering consequences of a disabling injury or illness however, make awareness of disability insurance important this month and all year long.

Research from the Council for Disability Awareness shows that working adults under 40 are tragically unaware of their vulnerability to periods of lost income. Have you considered how your life and financial plans could change if you couldn't earn an income? The number of working-age Americans who have experienced a disabling injury or illness is staggering:

  • +1,500,000 working-age Americans have experienced a disabling injury or illness in 2022 to date
  • ~300,000 working-age Americans experience a disabling injury or illness each month

  • ~10,000 working-age Americans experience a disabling injury or illness each day

While some monthly expenses can be reduced or eliminated during times of financial stress, generally, expenses such as your mortgage, utilities and groceries - must be paid. That’s where having The M.U.G.® Plan can provide important assistance.

The M.U.G.® Plan, provided by Illinois Mutual Insurance in partnership with Peoples Bank, is Disability Insurance (DI) designed to provide basic protection against the financial burden caused by a disabling injury or illness.  M.U.G which stands for Mortgage. Utilities. Groceries. covers these monthly expenses during times of hardship.
